You need to make sure that the water is biologically ready before you let your shrimps in. The process of aquarium maturation is a process of building a small ecosystem. As in every environment, the nitrogen cycle takes place in aquarium. If you want to keep your animals healthy you need to maintain biological balance. A new tank lacks bacteria flora which regulates the level of ammonia. That is why you should wait 3-4 weeks for nitrobacteria to grow. Then the bacteria will be able to change ammonia into nitrite and finally into nitrate.

How to prepare the aquarium

Freshwater shrimps feel good in schools so you can keep many of them in one small aquarium. It is enough to have a 20l tank.

Before buying live animals you need to make sure that their new environment is appropriate.

Depending on species you need different soil - Cardina and Paracardina prefer active bioground (usually black pellets) - here I recommend H.E.L.P. products. Neocardinia and Babaulti need regular quartz grit that does not react with water.

There are many products for shrimps that are widely available. All of them would be good as basic food.

I recommend to vary the diet of our pets by adding some unprocessed food, i.e. blanched nettle or kale leaves, canned pea, oak or Indian almond leaves and alder cones. Plant-based fish food can be also fed to shrimps.

Shipping is safe. I post shrimps from Monday till Wednesday - purchase payable in advance.

When the temperature is lower than -10 or higher than 30 degrees Celsius your package is dispatched at your own risk.

The parcels are durable - double bags wrapped in paper, aluminum foil and bubble foil all put in a box.

Empty spaces are filled with paper so that the content is secured.

Before shrimps are let into their new environment they need to undergo acclimatization.

It is a process during which they adapt to different temperature and chemical composition of water. Shrimps need to be unpacked from a plastic bag and poured into a clean bowl /container. You have to make sure that nothing is left in the bag.

Light coloured yellow to strong intense yellow. Females are more strongly coloured than the males. Females may also have a stripe along their back which males will not have.
